SF Favorites.

I’ve spent a little over a year living in one of the greatest cities in the world. My time as a resident is quickly coming to an end and I want to cover here some of my absolute favorite places, activities, food, drinks, and sites around the bay area. Below, I cover some of my favorites but I would also love to hear what your absolute most are in the beautiful city. Do share in the comment section below if you have any!

Activities

Hands down one of my favorite activities is biking over the Golden Gate Bridge. We’ll normally rent bikes by Ghiradelli Square and bike along the water, through Fort Mason, up to and across the bridge, and then into Sausalito. The route is around 7 miles and we’ll normally spend the afternoon over in Sausalito and take the ferry back to the city.

Once in Sausalito, if the weather is nice, I enjoy sitting outside at a local restaurant, Bar Bocce.  They have a great environment, amazing wood fire grilled pizza, and delicious pitchers of sangria. Do I need to say more?

Of course, another one of my favorites alongside many is the Outside Lands music festival. This event is held every August in Golden Gate Park and will run from Friday until Sunday. I’ve only ever purchased one day tickets but I know many who can last the full three days out in the sun. The weather tends to get chilly in the park so make sure to pack layers as well as plenty of dollars to purchase all the delicious food.

The Ferry Building Farmers Market, held on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays is a special treat to shop around, taste some yummy treats, as well as some of the best people watching around.

Grace Cathedral is located in Nob Hill and hold Yoga every Tuesday evenings with the occasional meditation. The structure is stunning and the whole Cathedral fills up very quickly so you’ll need to show up about an hour early to get a spot. There is also a suggested $10 donation for the class at the door.

Sites

There is MUCH to be said about how beautiful the house entryways are around the city. As you walk around, which you more than likely will, keep an eye out for how the locals like to take their stab at landscaping. You’re bound to be amazed.

Muir Woods is north of the city and a nice short drive over the Golden Gate bridge. If you enjoy nature, hiking, and need a morning or afternoon outside of the city, this is your place.

The city has plenty of beaches but Chrissy Fields is one of my favorite. Definitely one of the more under rated beaches, you’ll still get a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge and can have a nice walk along the Marina Greens before or afterward.

Restaurants

Sotto Mare was one of the first restaurants I stumbled into when I moved here and it was a wonderful experience! This small diner is settled right in North Beach and has an adorable small diner feel. My dish choice, of course, would be the Cioppino.

Cotogna is amazing for Italian lovers or really anyone that is into food. I would recommend the ravioli and gelato. Also would recommend making reservation well in advance unless you want a really odd meal time.

Bob’s donuts is a must if you’re in the Nob Hill area or in San Francisco at all. The donuts are to die for and even more so at 3AM.

Gio Gelato is a favorite mid-day treat of mine and is located in the Marina neighborhood. It is probably the best gelato I’ve had in the states.

Drinks

Maritime Wine bar is settled between China Town and North Beach. If you didn’t know it was there, you’d completely miss it walking by. It is settled behind a cafe bakery and is definitely a nice kept secret. Hop on in on a Friday afternoon for a delicious wine flight.

The Wine Merchant, located in the Ferry Building, is a great place to stop on a mid-day week day to sit at one of their small high-top tables, enjoy some amazing wine, listen to the intelligent workers and people watch all the tourist walking through the ferry building.

Amelie, located off Polk street in the Nob Hill neighborhood, is an excellent place to indulgent on some lovely wine. There is live music on Sunday evening as well as a great happy hour deal on wine tastings from 5-7P each evening.

More to come soon!
